Plattsburgh, NY- PrimeLink, Inc., as a partner with the Development Authority of the North Country (DANC), has become an integral part of the construction of the $9.8 million Adirondack-Champlain Telemedicine Information Network known as ACTION, a 239-mile network that will link medical facilities in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Rensselaer, Saratoga, St. Lawrence, Warren, and Washington Counties. This network will allow participants to more easily access and share information and reduce costs for the transfer of medical data. ACTION will increase the use of interactive audiovisual media for consulting, long-distance examinations and procedures. PrimeLink will be responsible for construction and broadband service to specific sites in Clinton, Essex, Northern Rensselaer, Warren, and Washington Counties.
The project will bring fiber optic technology to health care providers some of whom previously have had very little or no access. Fiber-optic communication represents the future of digital communications, transmitting information from one place to another by sending pulses of light through an optical fiber. The light forms an electromagnetic carrier wave that is adapted to carry information. No other technology can deliver as much bandwidth to the customer as fiber, and this transport medium will equip the North Country medical community with a communications network for the future. PrimeLink, recognized in January of this year as the 2010 Business of the Year by the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce, has been the industry leader in fiber optic voice and data communications in the Plattsburgh market since 1997.

The ACTION project is made possible with funding through Empire State Development to the SUNY Research Foundation, the project’s sponsor, to match funding provided by the Federal Communications Commission. The project is expected to be completed by the end of July 2012.
